Webequie, Ontario
ROCKS & MINERALS: flint, flint nodule with smoky quartz crystals, fossils in
flint, gneiss, kimberlite, sand & gravel, glacial trill deposits
|

From the air, you can see that this area is covered in
lakes and small areas of land. This is a view of the area around
Webequie taken on the flight in. Notice how the lakes are elongated in
one direction. |

A great variety of rocks & pebbles can be found at the
beach. The island on which Webequie is built appears to have a lot of
sand, gravel and rounded glacial till. |

This flint nodule has an imprint of a shell fossil in it. |

Flint is very common. This sample seems to be banded,
similar to banded chert found in
Dundas Ontario. |

A rock was found at the beach that appears to be
kimberlite. It looks almost
identical to a sample of a drill core slice from a Norhtern Ontario
diamond location. |

Kimberlite found on the
beach at Webequie |

A flint nodule found on the beach by a resident showed to
be a flint nodule geode with smoky quartz crystals when it was broken
open. |

This is a piece of the flint/smoky quartz geode that
broke out of the hollow section. |

The beaches are lined with rocks. |
